ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Prepare to embark on a thrilling journey along the greatest trading route in history—the legendary Silk Road. In this stunning exhibition, you’ll traverse the ancient cities of Asia and the Middle East between AD 600 and 1200, where spectacular sights, exquisite silks, and rousing stories await. Pick up your passport, which will be stamped at each destination, and set off to four magnificent cities whose traditions and technologies still influence the world today.
The first stop: Xi’an. Watch as live silk worms spin cocoons and examine a 17-foot model of a Tang Era silk loom in this capital city. Then, join Turfan’s raucous night market and survey the feathers, furs, and spices on display. In Samarkand, explore the ancient crafts of papermaking and glassblowing and learn about your trusty transport, the camel. Finally, ancient Baghdad, a hub of commerce and scholarship, beckons as you near the end of your travels.
Remarkable dioramas, fascinating interactives, and impressive artifacts will amaze children and adults alike on this adventure along the Silk Road.
Every Sunday afternoon, live performances organized by the Silk Road Project will add another dimension to this sensory voyage.
